DIY Beehive & Wasp Nest Removal – A Bad Idea
By ProMatcher Staff
Bees, wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets are just some of the pests that can put a damper on your regular outdoor activities. Like the family in this video above, you might think it’s a good idea to try to get rid of the nest yourself.
Before you take any drastic measures, you may want to consider the following:
1. 2 million people in the U.S. are allergic to bees. 2. Around 100 Americans die every year from bee stings.
3. Insect stings can cause anaphylactic shock. These allergic reactions can be life-threatening.
4. Stings can cause pain, swelling, itching, and redness.
5. About 3% of children have allergic reactions to bees.
6. Africanized bees (better known as “killer bees”) attack in deadly swarms. If disturbed, they can pursue a victim for up to a quarter of a mile. Don't let the name fool you! These bees can be found within the United States and they really do have the ability to sting someone to death.
7. If you are stung near your throat, swelling can make it difficult to breathe. Even if you are not allergic to bees, you can still be in danger.
Beehive and wasp nest removal is a job best left to the professionals. If we haven't convinced you, good luck and be safe!
